KATE CARLYLE
How long have you been in radio?
A while now…Okay, over 10 years.
Career...
Obviously covering the big stories like Sept 11 and natural disasters is challenging - but so is the day-to-day nature of our work.
I guess the best part of working in a radio newsroom is the challenge we face every hour – to get the latest breaking and best stories into each upcoming bulletin. Some people appreciate jobs where every day is different – for us it’s usually every hour!
The beauty about being in a Newsroom which has a local focus – is the ability to really interact with our community. By following local issues closely we’re able to not only report the facts – but explore what they mean for our listeners.
Mentoring...
Radio/Journalism is a tough gig – and most people who have been in it a while can remember their first break. We are proud to take part in the Griffith University Mentoring Program, and also the Internship Program at QUT – to give journalism students a close-up look at how it is in the real world. I’m pleased to say some of the students have ended up actually working in our
Newsroom.
Why I love the Coast?
Apart from our spectacular weather – our region has such diversity. Surf, the hinterland – and we’re certainly spoilt for choice when it comes to food and wine! (It’s nice to see the city now embracing the region with the beachfront and farmers markets.) The multitude of events means there’s always something on – or you can just chill in perfect surrounds.

MICHELLE PRICE
My journey to HT
I had worked in radio for 6 years when I heard there was a job on the Gold Coast and went for it. Seemed like the perfect place to live and work.
Likes/dislikes
I like vegetarian food and dislike people who name drop.
The best thing about the Coast
Has to be the lifestyle - sand, surf and restaurants.
My perfect day off
Would be sitting on my back patio with a good book.
Last couple of months
Started working the brekky shift - coping with the early morning starts. |

KEEGAN BUZZA
How long have you been in radio?
I only began in community radio about 12 months ago, so it’s been a pretty meteoric rise to where I am now.
What's the highlight of your career so far?
There has been a couple. Reading my first ever bulletin on Hot Tomato was an incredible rush and asking Pamela Anderson a question at her press conference at Palazzo Versace was big.
Why are you at Hot Tomato?
I came to the station through the Griffith Industry Mentoring Program and just hoped for a bit of work experience. Little did I know that I would be reading news so soon after. |
